This past Sunday I made some comments about our opportunity to act redemptively in regard to the Gay Pride parade scheduled for Saturday, June 19.  Some of our members who have been actively pursuing biblical response to the Gay Pride initiative—which is an effort to popularize the lifestyle through aggressive political and economic means—have proposed praying (2 Chronicles 7:14); repenting (1 Peter 4:17); fasting (Joel 2:12-13); and educating  (2 Corinthians 10:5).  They also suggest boycotting the parade sponsors listed at www.prideaugusta.org which is debatable as a “biblical action.” It may be more biblical to engage lovingly in a conversation with those who lead these businesses and ask if they really understand what they are sponsoring or using other means of influence to help these organizations see that it is outside of their business mission to foist new moralities on a culture.

In those comments I promised additional resources to help in dealing with the whole matter of homosexuality—both for those who struggle with it as a sin and those who seek to help friends and family members find freedom in Christ. Below is a listing of those resources:

The best short read on homosexuality is Thomas E. Schmidt’s lecture:  “Searching for Truth in Lifestyles:  Homosexuality and Christian Morality” <http://dev.leaderu.com/stonewall/issues/tomschmidt.html>

For insights into loving ministry to homosexuals:
Focus on the Family’s CD’s, “Love Wins Out:  Addressing Homosexuality in our Culture

Below is an additional list of resources assembled by a sexual addiction ministry we started in St. Louis called “FirstLight”:

I Do Exist, a DVD produced and directed by Dr. Warren Throckmorton of Grove City College.

“Texts, Sex, and Sanctity: Robert Gagnon on Homosexuality and the Bible,” Mars Hill Interview with Robert Gagnon; an excellent interview with the man who has written the most thorough book on the biblical testimony regarding homosexuality.
